Manoj and Seema have lived in their 2 bedroom duplex apartment in The Tanneries since 2017. They moved here from West Ham with their son, who is now four and a half years old.
The Tanneries was an obvious choice according to Manoj - he was keen to find a location close to his office in Aldgate. Coupled with that, the close proximity of the Abbey Road Doctors Surgery, with its great reputation, was a huge factor. In their previous location, it was near impossible to get an appointment! In September this year, their son started school, so the quality of the nearby local primary school was also important.
Originally from Delhi, India, the couple have traveled extensively with Manoj’s job in IT, but have really enjoyed making The Tanneries their home over the last couple of years. With the library close by and Stratford’s great facilities for children, including the nearby Discovery Centre on Stratford High Street, there’s plenty to do for the whole family.
Working from home on the day we met up, Manoj showed just how flexible the living space was, working from his laptop at the table while chatting to us. He explained, “I can get into my office easily; the DLR station is literally a 3 minute walk away.” And talking about how they have settled into the area he continued, “This area is lovely. There are parks nearby but my favourite place has to be Abbey Gardens, our local community garden. I have met people from all over the world while volunteering here. It brings the community together.”
The couple are incredibly pleased with the service they have received from Red Door. “The team is always quick to help and we get a much higher level of service than we have had in previous properties. They have a really easy online system to manage the whole (tenancy) process.”
While Red Door’s standard protocol is to respond to a query within a day, Manoj said he has always received a response on the same day. “I can tell that good communication is really important to Red Door. And so is safety and security - which is good, especially when you have children. Red Door is always innovating, surveying residents to ensure they are happy with the service - as well as checking in on people.”
Every Red Door development has a property manager. At The Tanneries, its Olivia and she is on first name terms with pretty much all of the 36 families living here. Olivia explains, “Its great to hear how happy Manoj and Seema are with how we manage The Tanneries. Its lovely to get to know our tenants. We don’t want to be a faceless developer. Having a personal interest in our buildings and our tenants is so important. ”
We end our conversation with a delicious cup of chai tea as Manoj and Seema share stories of their life together. It is obvious that they are a close knit family and really love living in The Tanneries. As Manoj testified, “We are really proud of our home. I wouldn’t live anywhere else in London. It will be a sad day when we leave this house.”
