Leading PRS developer, Red Door Ventures has received planning permission, subject to the section 106 Agreement and GLA approval, for the redevelopment of the area around Plaistow Underground station in Newham which will help redefine a new local centre.
Known as Plaistow Hub, the proposals at London Road and Valetta Grove include the creation of public spaces and enhanced pedestrian networks, and the delivery of new rented housing, commercial use and community facilities within a new vibrant local centre.
Plaistow Hub will provide 182 units of rented accommodation, with 100 properties at the London Road site and 82 at Valetta Grove, along with residential and public cycle storage facilities within the buildings and public area.
The two schemes represent a significant opportunity for vital regeneration around Plaistow Underground station and emphasis has been placed on place making and the promotion of the public realm to improve the congested environment around the station and enhance existing public routes through the sites to outlying catchment areas.
Commercial facilities including a gym, supermarket and cafe will also be part of a new public space outside the station as well as a neighbourhood centre at the Valetta Grove site which will provide a new library and community facilities and activate street and park frontages. Both sites are located at a key transport intersection on Plaistow Road and directly adjacent to Plaistow Underground station.
Kent Taylor, Managing Director of Red Door Ventures comments, “Red Door Ventures was established to provide a new type of development to the rental market, offering high quality properties with responsive, trustworthy management and Plaistow Hub represents another significant step forward for the company.
“Through delivering the best in private renting, we are creating communities that give residents the security that they can establish roots long term and become part of the local area. Resident experience is also key to us and the Hub will provide facilities such as a gym, 24-hour concierge, parcel collection service, residents lounge and rentable event space, and roof terrace amenities.”
The Mayor of Newham, Sir Robin Wales, said: “The Red Door Ventures initiative continues to go from strength to strength and is making a significant local contribution to alleviating the capital’s housing crisis.
“This latest potential development is just another example of RDV helping to address the lack of high quality homes in the borough while generating a return for the council which we can then invest in to the services our residents depend and rely on.”
Red Door Ventures is committed to the delivery of high quality residential dwellings across Newham and beyond. It has plans to build thousands of homes over the next ten years, bringing much needed new accommodation to help relieve the housing pressure in London.
