Sir Robin Wales, Mayor of Newham said: “Red Door Ventures continues to go from strength to strength. I am proud of this innovative housing company set up by the council to provide stable, reliable and high quality homes which are let by a good landlord tenants can trust.
“With the launch of The Tanneries last year in Stratford and work starting soon on this latest development in Plaistow, the company is helping to combat the housing crisis by increasing the supply of homes for rent in Newham. With many more developments currently in the pipeline throughout Newham, I look forward to watching the company continue to grow.”
Libra Road, on a former derelict brownfield site, will provide 17 quality one and two bedroom apartments for rent. The contemporary new development, close to Plaistow station, is designed by award winning architects Bell Phillips and will be built by HG Construction.
The development has been designed to repair the urban streetscape and restructure this part of Libra Road creating a three sided cul de sac with a dynamic folding facade that brings life to the street and provides recessed balconies or gardens for each dwelling, which are angled to maximize sunlight from the south.
The scheme will comply with London Housing Design Guide standards. Good size windows and a light shaft will introduce excellent natural daylight throughout reducing reliance on artificial lighting.
Chris Wood, Managing Director of Red Door Ventures commented: “We are delighted that the Mayor of Newham was able to officially mark the start of our new development on Libra Road. Momentum is also building for the company with work already underway on a further development in Nelson Street, Newham, which will provide six refurbished apartments for rent".
